The Olivet Christian Education program offers faith formation for all ages. Options include Sunday School and the "Wednesday Nights at Olivet" program for children, youth and adults.
For Children Children from infants to age four may stay with their parents during worship or be cared for in the newly decorated and well-equipped nursery. Children from pre-kindergarten to seventh grade attend the first part of the worship (about 10-15 minutes), which concludes with a special children's story from the minister. The children are then escorted to their age-appropriate Sunday School classes for the remainder of the service. During the "Wednesday Nights at Olivet" programs, children enjoy a dinner with their families and other church members, followed by religious education classes that include learning and crafts projects that are often of service to the larger community (for instance, neighbors of the church, children in homeless shelters, etc.). During the summer, a special Summer children's Program is offered for children ages four through ten during the worship service. Contact Grace Anderson, the Director of Christian Education, for more details, (651) 646-1478. For Youth Youth from 7th grade through high school participate in a weekly youth group as part of "Wednesday Nights at Olivet." Their activities include religious education with a strong community service orientation, including an optional biennial Mission Trip to hard-pressed communities in the United States, as well as support of St. Paul food shelves and other community services. Youth raise money to suppor their mission work with Sunday coffee bean sales and an annual Sweetheart Dinner. To register a youth for Youth Group participation, please print out this form and return to Grace Anderson. Young people ages 13-14 may participate in a year-long Confirmation program. They meet weekly with the pastor for Christian education and work closely with an adult mentor from the congregation to develop their own statements of belief. They present their statements during a spring Confirmation ceremony, followed by a celebration in the church Fellowship Hall. (2010 Mentor Adam and Confirmand Sami.)
For Adults Adults of all ages participate in spiritual development offerings as part of "Wednesday Nights at Olivet," and other programs offered to meet their special needs. A monthly "Olivet Movie Night" includes pre-movie potluck appetizers, followed by a DVD viewing and discussion of a substantive feature film, and dessert.
